HI AI

Uniting humanities majors with the emerging world of artificial intelligence.

Sep - Dec 2023 ✱ Brand Identity and Environmental Design

Overview

With the rise of AI chatbots, students in the humanities fear the future of their careers. What if AI could be something they can control, too?

Humanities Interventions in Artificial Intelligence (HI AI) encourages students to contribute their unique fields of study towards research in rising technologies, in turn diversifying the typical binary of 1’s and 0’s in computer science.

Process

I built HI AI as a conceptual campaign for students of Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). Northeastern takes pride in being one step ahead of the latest updates in STEM and technology, and this campaign mirrors this pride towards students in the arts and humanities.

For HI AI’s brand identity, I used bright, eye-catching colors to showcase urgency as much as optimism, particularly through a royal purple providing a sense of power and attention. The campaign’s typography balances regal blackletter letterforms with a modern, clean look to connect the craft of written type with Generation Z’s authenticity.

The campaign’s applications connect Northeastern’s professional ecosystem to their students’ confidence in their work as well as in themselves.

Outcome

HI AI’s applications share a pattern of an initial striking message before taking a closer look, prioritizing control and confidence through positive change. These days, it can feel as if robots are taking over the world, but my campaign reminds us of our control over our creations.

This project culminated into a book showcasing my creative process, which was featured in a Senior Show representing Northeastern University’s Department of Art + Design.

This campaign reminds students of the control they have over their futures by learning the technology behind it. In order to truly make progress, the future must begin today.
